Phone Calls and Campaigns
In 2019, I and two of my friends decided to volunteer for Marie Newman's campaign. Marie Newman was a democrat who ran for district congress in 2019. As volunteers we were to aid with the campaign by calling homes in the district and asking for donations and for support. We were given a sheet with phone numbers and asked to call each one in order to garner financial support and asses the political interests of the residents. Most of the people we called were elderly people and oftentimes it was hard to hold conversation because a lot lacked interest in voting for a progressive democrat. It was an interesting experience regardless. Although political campaigning is not my cup of tea, being able to volunteer with friends and interacting with elderly people made it enjoyable. Oftentimes while the people weren't interested in talking about politics they would gladly hold casual conversation. It was a lovely experience, and one that I will remember.
