Feeding the Community

Community, to me this means being part of a group of people who share the goals and perseverance, a place in which you can always rely on for support. At my school GCE Lab we have a very strong sense of community and we take it very seriously, as everyone is always encouraging one another and there is just an overall feeling of support and comfort. Whether we be showing this feeling by chanting someone on or simply by waving at someone while passing them in the hallways we always make sure everyone is included.

That's why every Thursday of every week we do a closed campus lunch which we call "Community Lunch". This day the assigned advisory team cooks the meal they have planned over the week for the whole school. For the first 4 weeks of community lunch my advisory was assigned to cook the meals. We made sure to thoroughly plan the meal and run ideas by the professional chef who helped us to make sure we could make the best community lunch we could. By doing this the preparing came easy and was overall fun all things considered. I felt as if most of the time things went smooth although it did feel rushed at times considering we had about a 45 minute time limit.

I unfortunately missed the first meal but for our 2nd meal we cooked grilled cheese sandwiches which came out pretty good. Then for our third meal we cooked mac and cheese which everyone enjoyed and we had no left overs. Finally for our 4th meal we cooked lasagna which was really good too.

It was a great feeling knowing we cooked meals for the whole school and everyone enjoyed it. They enjoyed so much in fact most of the time they came back asking for seconds. It gave me a feeling of pride and happiness knowing all that preparing and planning paid off in a way everyone enjoyed. I enjoyed cooking with my advisory this semester and hope next time we have the same luck and do just as great.
