Creating Classrooms
What does an Ideal classroom look like? What is a learning environment? These are the questions my group and I were asked not only to think about but take into action by designing our own classroom. With the start of the school year coming up and the classrooms disorganized we had to take on the task to take all our imagination, schema, and new experiences to create our very own learning space.
First we took an excursion trip to check out a sound installation at one of Chicago's most well known parks, Millennium Park. While this may seem off topic it was important for us to try experience learning outside the classroom to see what was an efficient learning space and what was not, so was an outside sound installment a good place to learn? Well yes and no, there were some good aspects such as a freedom to explore, ability to truly experience and learn something new but there was negative aspects such as major distractions and the only comfortable seating was laying down on the grass with our book-bags as pillows. When we headed back and reflected on it we made sure to take notes on what we enjoyed as a learning space and what we did not fancy.
The next days we started to plan out, we started to put ideas on paper. Our assigned room to organize was rectangular, had one door, and had a big opening into a hallway, this is a quick sketch:
