Luchando Against the Casta System

In my Equality class we've been introduced to sociological concepts that help us understand the way society and culture shapes the experience of each and every one of us. We have learned about the way identity affects the way we perceive the surrounding world and how intersectionalities found at the blend of these identities can impact the way society treats us. We've learned about egalitarian societies and the everyday inequalities we face or our neighbors face. 

For our final action project we were asked to put together all our knowledge to create a Zine. Similar to a magazine a zine is supposed to be thought provoking and educational. We were to pick an issue we were interested and passionate about. We were then to use educational devices to put across a message on the topic and catch peoples attention.  In the words of one of our hosts from our Field Experience to Co-Prosperity, "As long as you make one single person care about your issue, it's done its job".

In conclusion this project was incredibly fun to work on and the one I've enjoyed the most this year. I was able to blend my understanding of sociology, my passion for the issue, and my newly acquired graphic design skills into my zine. I hope through this zine I was able to educate on the Casta system implemented by the Spanish. I hope this makes the reader acknowledge the effects such systems can have and identify the damage done by them with more facility. Thank you for reading!
